- 2025 End of Season Review
2025 Season Review Hello and welcome to the JB Data Engineering End of Season Review for 2025! Where have the last twelve months gone!? Before we start looking at the series and teams we supported, the JB Data Engineering team would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who has used our services or bought products from us throughout the year. We are all aware of the current economic realities of professional motorsport and the demands on budgets. Your support in 2025 has been incredible and we hope we can continue to provide our products and services to you, as teams, drivers or championships, as we move into the new season. Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship 2025 has been a very busy season and one of the most engrossing projects we were involved in was providing data support to DTO Motorsports in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship. We were delighted to be given the opportunity to support Emma Tomlinson in the #47 Ginetta G56 GTP8 and I think everybody learned a lot throughout the season. Being one of the few teams with only one car in the championship meant that we had to learn quickly at the circuit, without the benefit of data from multiple entries. Also, with the G56 GTP8 being a new car and in constant development by Ginetta, there were some challenges we had to work through but everybody worked as a team to ensure a high level of competitiveness. Above: Emma Tomlinson at the wheel of the #47 DTO Motorsport Ginetta G56 GTP8 at Brands Hatch (Photo: Ginetta) We were pleased that there were several benefits that we could bring to the programme that we hope made a difference. Our ability to study data quickly and decide which setup options offered the most advantages was an area where we could make a big difference. Using our prior Ginetta experience, we knew where to look and how to react when faced with questions. Our ten years of experience working within garages throughout the world also meant that we could offer clear guidelines and steer decision-making in the right direction. We also brought in some ‘best practice’ processes to the team and suggested some race weekend disciplines that we hope everyone benefited from. Above: The 2025 Ginetta GT Championship grid in action (Photo: Ginetta) Emma Tomlinson raced to two podium finishes on her way to finishing 13 th overall in the Ginetta GT Championship and third in the Am category – a fantastic result for only her first season competing at this level. Airtec Motorsport Fiesta ST240 Championship Above: Airtec Motorsport Fiesta ST240 Championship grid in action at Anglesey (Photo: Fiesta ST240) One of the most demanding programmes for us in 2025 was supporting JRW Motorsport in the Airtec Motorsport Fiesta ST240 Championship. Drivers Sean Reynolds, Zachary Lucas, Morgan Kidd, James Pope, Christopher Blackburn, Connor Blackburn, Maggie Webster, Matt Chambers and Simon Horrobin were a pleasure to work with. It was fantastic to see the drivers commitment and determination rewarded with 10 podium finishes across the classes they competed in when the championship concluded at the BRSCC Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch in October. The relationship with JRW Motorsport came about after we were invited to support a pre-season test day. That led to an offer to join the team for the season and an early indication of where we could help occurred when the team had an ABS issue on one car. A review of the data suggested an issue with a wheel speed sensor, resulting in the diagnosis of water ingress to the wheel bearing. This issue would have been impossible to spot without stripping the car down but JB Data Engineering’s data insight enabled the team to resolve the issue quickly and effectively without the need for an extensive tear-down. Above: The Airtec Motorsport Fiesta ST240 Championship in action at Snetterton (Photo: Fiesta ST240) As the season progressed, we all gained a much better understanding of the Fiesta ST240. Using data to diagnose performance issues meant we could avoid spending money on spare parts in the hope that it would make for a quicker race car. We were delighted to develop a very productive working relationship with driver coach Bobby Thompson. With Bobby looking after the drivers and JB Data Engineering reviewing data, we created a package for the team so that everybody knew what to focus on. When the season came to an end, we were delighted to see the number of our drivers who finished within the top ten of their respective classes. As a result, we look forward to 2026 with the confidence to be even more competitive. GT Cup Championship Above: The #24 SVG Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 in action at Brands Hatch (Photo: GT Cup Championship) Previous experience of competing, and winning, in the GT Cup Championship was the ‘USP’ that led to an invitation from SVG Motorsport to join them for 2025 as they campaigned their Ginetta G56 EVO GT4, driven by Marc Elman and Owen Hizzey, and BMW M4 GT4, piloted by Neil Wallace and Ian Astley. Calling on our knowledge of both the series and the cars, we suggested some procedural changes to improve operating efficiencies over a race weekend as well as investment in VBOX Pit Lane Timers and RaceSense Digital Tyre Pressure Gauges. As the season progressed, it was satisfying to see that both the Ginetta and the BMW could battle with every car in their respective classes with the result that Neil and Ian comfortably won the GTA class with Marc and Owen finishing third in the GTH category. Photo: The #99 SVG Motorsport Ginetta G56 EVO GT4 (Photo: GT Cup Championship) We were delighted that the team could see the value of working with a data engineer who could plug in to a car and quickly and efficiently diagnose a problem and suggest solutions. We hope we can be part of the SVG Motorsport GT Cup journey again in 2026. British Endurance Championship Above: The British Endurance Championship on track at Donington (Photo: British Endurance Championship) 2025 was our fourth year of supporting the British Endurance Championship, managed and run by Claire Hedley and her team, and it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm for the new format with racing now taking place over one day, rather than the whole weekend. JB Data Engineering has worked across a large number of series and championships and we must offer our congratulations to Claire and her colleagues for making the new calendar work so well. Visiting eight different venues over eight weekends is a real accomplishment and, as a contractor working as part of the motorsport industry, we are very grateful to the BEC for keeping teams, drivers and professionals like us busy throughout the season. Above: Ash Woodman in the EDF Cupra TCR (Photo British Endurance Championship) Our focus this year was data scrutineering for the TCR entries and then, when time allowed, supporting the rest of the grid. This allowed us to demonstrate one of the key strengths of JB Data Engineering; the ability to work under pressure, questioning where necessary, and the confidence to make decisions. As always, the racing was excellent and a great season was enjoyed by all. We very much hope to back in the British Endurance Championship paddock in 2026. Aove: JB Data Engineering working with VBOX engineers on-site in 2025 (Photo: VBOX) In addition to our trackside support, we spent a lot of time in workshops up and down the country, supplying, installing and providing training on all the equipment we supply. As a trusted supplier for Aim , Cartek , Ecumaster , RaceSense and VBOX products, we can advise on, and supply, the latest equipment to give you the ultimate competituve edge. - Are you leaving time on the track? Product Review: RaceSense Tyre Gauge
Regularly checking your tyre temps and pressures can improve your lap times. Taking regular tyre temperature and pressure readings is essential to perfecting your setup and lengthening tyre life. Using the traditional gauge, pyrometer and recording data manually takes time, with every second of delay reducing the accuracy of your readings. We're taking a detailed look at the RaceSense Tyre Gauge with optional temperature probe and we explain why the RaceSense Tyre Gauge should be an essential tool for you at the track. The RaceSense Tyre Gauge Changes The Game! Tyre pressures and temperatures are racing’s gold. Get them right and lap times drop while tyres last longer. Normally you’d be juggling a pressure gauge, pyrometer, a notebook and a pen while rushing to capture accurate data before tyres cool. The RaceSense Tyre Gauge changes the game. Here are six reasons why we think the RaceSense Tyre Gauge should be essential equipment in your tool box. 1) Record Pressures Fast and Accurately Record pressures on all four tyres without pressing any buttons. The starting tyre and direction (i.e. FL, RL, RR, FR - clockwise or anti-clockwise) can be preset, as can two- and four-tyre mode. The unit has the capacity for seven vehicles, allowing for easy switching between entries for a multi-car team. 2) Some Like It Hot Include the optional thermocouple probe and the RaceSense Tyre Gauge can record the inner, middle and outer tyre temperatures. Data captured is accurate to within +/-1º C and the unit will additionally record time, date and ambient temperature, all of which can be exported. 3) There’s An App For That The RaceSense Tyre Gauge has a built-in phone link, allowing you to upload data in less than a second and view it in the RaceSense app. If your phone isn’t available, you can plug the gauge directly into your laptop and download a CSV file. 4) Keep Your Data Secret Instead of displaying your pressures on the RaceSense Tyre Gauge for all to see, select OFFSET MODE. This allows you to input your desired pressures beforehand, with the unit then showing the offset from these values rather than actual pressures on the screen. Adjust pressures until you reach zero and no one will know what pressures you’re running 5) It’s Tough! The RaceSense Tyre Gauges’s die-cast, powder-coated, water-resistant aluminium case is designed to take a beating and with its durable polycarbonate screen, this tool will be a trackside essential for many years to come….as long as someone doesn’t ‘borrow’ it in the meantime! (Pro Tip: Inscribe your name on it.) 6) Battery Life Will Not Be a Problem The RaceSense Tyre Gauge charges, upgrades and downloads via a USB connection and a single charge will last for 24 hours when the unit is in constant use - perfect for the world’s longest endurance races! Using the RaceSense Tyre Gauge transforms the collection of tyre and pressure data. If you want to discuss a technical issue, review options for new equipment purchases or generally get advice about data and video capture, you can book a 30-minute telephone consultation where we can discuss your issues in detail and provide solutions. At just £20.00 + VAT for half an hour, we think this represents excellent value and we hope we can provide some insightful support for you during that time. A 30-minute consultation with a data engineering expert could be invaluable if you’re struggling with an issue and just want a detailed conversation. Jordan
- July 2025 Newsletter: VBOX installation tips.
Welcome to the July 2025 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. Is poor cable management and GPS receiver positioning compromising your data? Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter! As we’re now at the peak of the motorsport season, the JB Data Engineering team has been working flat-out over the past few weeks and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon. We hope your season is going well and that you’re seeing the results of all your hard work in podium finshes and series success. (Above: SVG Motorsport Team Principal Andy Johnson in conversation with JB Data Engineering - Snetterton - June 2025) In our June newsletter, we outlined some work we’d carried out in conjunction with Racelogic, focused on the development of new graphic overlay files. We were recently speaking with our friends at the company after they had returned from Spa, supporting teams in the British GT Championship. Racelogic mentioned that some teams are still struggling to optimise the position of their GPS antenna - a critical factor in ensuring accurate, efficient data. As a result, we thought we’d include some hints and tips on VBOX HD2 installation that we hope you might find helpful. We have also included links to two excellent Racelogic videos, presented by Customer Support Manager Mark Winwood, which provide expert guidance on the important areas of cable routing, camera placement and antenna installation. For expert data, engineering or video support, whether it’s for equipment supply, installation, training or support at the track, please email us at www.jbdataengineering.co.uk or call (44) 7717 562169 . We’d love to hear from you! VBOX HD2 Installation: Precision for Drivers at all levels Photo: Racelogic For drivers seeking faster laps, Racelogic’s VBOX HD2 delivers pro-level data, but making sure the unit is installed correctly is crucial for optimum performance. JB Data Engineering, trusted by teams ranging from club-level competitors through to FIA WEC champions, shares expert tips to ensure your HD2’s 1080p video and 25Hz GPS delivers the data you need. Avoid common pitfalls and boost performance – here’s how: Plug-and-Play Simplicity: The VBOX HD2 is a breeze to install – just watch the video below featuring DTO Motorsport’s Jack Goldie for an expert view on installation into the team’s new Ginetta GTP8. Connect power, CAN, cameras and GPS via pre-pinned connectors – no soldering needed. The CAN system integrates with your car’s dash (e.g., MoTeC), piggy-backing brake, throttle and engine data in minutes. Installation is quick and efficient –perfect for club racers short on time. ((Photo: Racelogic) Protect Cables, Preserve Data: Avoid crimping or bending cables. Tight bends near seats or dashboards (common in MX5s, for example) disrupt signals, skewing brake trails or gear selections – vital for spotting those 0.2s gains. Use loose cable ties and allow for slack, especially at the back of the camera. Route cables without kinks to avoid interference. The excellent video below from Racelogic explains in more detail the best way to cable your VBOX HD2. Smart GPS Mounting: Mount the GPS antenna externally on a flat, metallic surface (roof or bonnet) and avoid dashboards (non-metallic) or roll cages (blocked sky view). British GT teams at Spa learned this the hard way, with many teams struggling with poor antenna placement. Locate the antenna at least 10cms away from other similar devices and, for cars with carbon fibre and composite roofs, add metal tape as a mounting point. This ensures pinpoint track map accuracy. The video below shows precisely how to locate your antenna. Why It Works: Proper setup delivers reliable data and video for drivers, teams and race engineers with poor installs potentially wasting time and money. JB Data Engineering has been installing and working with VBOX HD2 installations for many years and we can ensure that you are able extract maximum value from your VBOX investment. JB Data Engineering offers expert HD2 installations and trackside support. We can ensure cables are correctly routed and secured and that your GPS is spot-on, maximising your data and video for sponsor-ready clips! Contact us on 00(44) 7717 562169 to discuss supply, installation, training or troubleshootin Why The Ecumaster ADU is a Must for Club Racers As the UK racing season moves towards its second half, the Ecumaster Advanced Display Unit (ADU) is the dash display you need to stay ahead. Trusted by teams across multiple series and championships, this compact powerhouse delivers critical data with a finesse that elevates every lap. VBOX Camera Ring Clamp for Video VBOX (RLACS116): Vibration or crashes can dislodge your VBOX video camera, killing track footage. The camera clamp ring connects to the Video VBOX suction or roll cage mount and allows for greater articulation of the cameras. Order your spare from JB Data Engineering and avoid being caught out by a loose camera. - October 2025 Newsletter: Making Key Career Decisions For 2026
October is a key time in the Motorsport Calendar. Hello and welcome to the JB Data Engineering October newsletter. Just as we thought activity was starting to quieten down as we approached the end of the domestic season, bookings have been flooding in for testing and shakedown work. As a result, the JB Data Engineering team has been flat out making sure that our clients are well supported as they prepare for the final rounds of the 2025 season and make plans for next year. October is a key time in the motorsport calendar. Not only are many teams preparing to travel to Asia and the Middle East for the Asian LeMans Series and 24H campaigns but they are also making detailed plans for 2026. Testing new drivers, shaking down cars and investing in new equipment needs careful, accurate planning and execution. JB Data Engineering can assist you by supporting your testing programmes, providing fast, accurate and relevant track-side feedback on new drivers and advising on potential data and video investments. Call us now on 00(44) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to discuss how we can help you optimise the planning phase for another year of exciting on-track action. Making Key Career Decisions For 2026? Talking of making decisions for next year, now is the time when many drivers are deciding where, and in what series, they are going to race in next year. JB Data Engineering knows how critical, and sometimes difficult, these decisions can be and whilst we are not career advisors or driver managers, we can offer an educated perspective, based on our years of experience in the industry. Below we’ve outlined six points to consider when making your next career move. Le Mans in 2030? Six factors to consider when making the decision to move up the motorsport ladder. As a driver, the direction you take in your motorsport career and the timing of your moves can be critical to achieving your goals. JB Data Engineering has helped many drivers who are considering where to take their careers. Here are six key factors to consider when looking to move up: 1. Performance Track Record Evaluate your results in your current series. Have you consistently performed well, taken your share of race wins and podiums, or shown strong qualifying pace? A solid foundation demonstrates readiness and attracts higher-level teams. If you have any doubts, another year in your current series to build skills and experience could be the right decision. 2. Alignment with Long-Term Goals Does this decision logically move you towards your ultimate ambitions? The choices you make will differ if you want to move towards endurance racing, touring cars, or single-seater success. While the offer to move up to a new series might seem exciting, consult with managers, mentors, and other industry professionals to ensure you’re making the right choice. 3. Testing Opportunities Seat time is vital for building experience, race craft, and circuit knowledge. As an aspiring sportscar driver, considering series such as the Asian Le Mans Series, 24H Dubai, and the Gulf 12 Hours could offer fantastic opportunities to gain on-track experience in preparation for a European assault in 2026. 4. Sponsor Alignment Does the new series align with the marketing objectives of your sponsors and commercial partners? Consider where the new series competes geographically, the level of streaming or TV coverage it attracts, and the demographic of its audience. These factors could be crucial for your partners. Ensure you explain your plans in detail to your sponsors to secure agreement ahead of the new season. 5. Personal Life Balance Factor in how your planned move might affect your family, education, business, or work commitments and other interests. Increased travel, longer race weekends, and demanding testing and fitness requirements might require sacrifices. Weigh up if the timing of your move supports your overall well-being. 6. Financial Resources It’s an obvious point, but higher series come with steeper costs for entries, travel, equipment, and team fees. Do you have sufficient funding, sponsorship, or investor backing to sustain a full season without financial strain or the risk of dropping out due to unplanned expenses? jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk Product Review: CARTEK 16 Channel Power Distribution Panel Retro Edition For club racers, the CARTEK 16 Channel Power Distribution Panel (PDP) is your electrical lifeline. This fully integrated unit replaces 16 fuses, relays, and switches, reducing wiring complexity and build time while saving weight. (Photo: CARTEK Motorsport Electronics) That wraps up our October newsletter. We hope you have a successful end to the UK season. If you’re racing in Asia, we wish you the best of luck for a successful campaign. As mentioned earlier, if you’re planning to shakedown your car in readiness for 2026, test a new driver, or if you’re looking for support in the workshop for testing, installing, servicing, or calibrating your data and video equipment, JB Data Engineering would be delighted to help. All the best, Jordan - JB Data Engineering Jordan Have a great October The JB Data Engineering Team.
- November 2025 Newsletter: Choosing Your Co-Driver
A Busy Month with Ginetta GT Championship, GT Cup and Fiesta ST240 weekends! Hello and welcome to the November edition of the JB Data Engineering newsletter. October has flown by and was one of the busiest months of 2025 with three season finale weekends packed into an already hectic schedule. We opened the month with DTO Motorsport and the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship, supporting Emma Tomlinson in the #47 Ginetta G56 GTP8. Emma qualified 13th overall and 3rd in the AM class, finishing 10th in the opening race and securing a podium place in class. It was great to see all of Emma’s, and the team’s, hard work paying off with the #47 car scoring its second AM class podium of the season and finishing in the overall top ten for the fourth time. Above: Emma Tomlinson at the wheel of the #47 DTO Motorsport Ginetta GTP8 at Brands Hatch. (Photo: Ginetta) The Race One points were sufficient to secure 13th place for Emma in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship Drivers Standings and third place in the AM drivers standings. We hope we can support DTO Motorsport for more success in 2026. The following weekend we were back with SVG Motorsport , supporting their two entries in the 2025 GT Cup Championship. These weekends are always action-packed with qualifying and two races on the Saturday followed by the same again on the Sunday so there’s never a moment to rest! Above: The #24 SVG Motorsport BMW M4 GT4, driven by Neil Wallace and Ian Astley (Photo: I & L Photography) With a two-car entry of Marc Elman and Owen Hizzey in the GTH class #99 Ginetta G56 EVO GT4 and Neil Wallace and Ian Astley in the #24 BMW M4 GT4 GTA-class entry, there was plenty to keep us focused. We were delighted to see Marc and Owen take two class podium finishes on their way to finishing 3rd in the end-of-season GTH standings. Neil and Ian, meanwhile, finished on the GTA class podium on three occassions, wrapping up a busy weekend with a class win in their final race. With the 2025 season drawing to a close, it was fantastic to see Neil and Ian provisionally crowned as GTA class champions, the duo finishing nearly 200 points ahead of the nearest rival. Above: The Fiesta ST240 grid leaving the start at Brands Hatch (Photo: James Roberts) And so finally, it was off to Brands Hatch and the BRSCC Formula Ford Festival with JRW Motorsport. As any one who as ever attended the Festival will know, the schedule is packed (as are the garages and paddock!) and with JRW Motorsport’s eight cars to support in the AIRTEC Motorsport Fiesta ST240 Championship, our work was cut out over the busy two days. We have thoroughly enjoyed our season with JRW Motorsport and we saw some great results at Brands Hatch. Probably the highlight of the weekend was seeing all eight cars take the chequered flag following Race Two with Morgan Kidd in the #53 car finally securing an overall podium and a 2nd-place finish in the PRO class. Out of the eight cars, seven finished on their class podium in Race Two, a very satisfying end to a demanding weekend. Choosing Your Co-Driver: Comparing the Aim Technologies ECU Log vs. X Log For any serious data engineer or racing driver, the foundation of performance analysis is a reliable, high-quality data logger. There are many on the market to choose from and JB Data Engineering can supply, install and provide training on units from the world’s leading suppliers. Right now, however, we want to focus on two units from Aim Technologies. Aim’s range of compact, screen-less units - the ECU Log (£385 + VAT) and the X Log ( £470+ VAT) ¾are designed for maximum performance in minimal space, but they are built for distinct user profiles. Choosing the right one is the key to maximising your data capture on track. Above: The Aim ECU Log (Photo: Aim) The Pure Engine Optimiser: Aim ECU Log The Aim ECU Log is a data logger that delivers exactly what the name suggests: it is the ultimate ECU interface. As the smallest and lightest logger in the Aim lineup, it’s size and weight make it ideal for applications where space and weight are critical, such as motorcycles, karts or single-seater cockpits where a dash is already in use or not required. Its core function is to capture a huge stream of data directly from a vehicle’s ECU via CAN, K-Line or RS232 protocols. Above: The Aim ECU Log (Photo: Aim) The Aim ECU Log is most suitable for: Engine Tuners and Technicians: Those focused purely on powertrain diagnostics like RPM, throttle position and temperatures and pressures read from the ECU. Minimalist Setups: Users who only need ECU data and are happy to add a GPS module and a few analogue sensors later via expansion modules. The Aim ECU Log is one option for the most cost-effective entry point for serious ECU logging. Photo: The Aim X Log (Photo: Aim) The Complete Performance Analyser: The Aim X Log The Aim X Lo g takes the compact screen-less concept and elevates it to a complete, all-in-one performance logging solution. While it includes the same ECU connectivity as the ECU Log, it integrates two critical components internally that dramatically expand its functionality: a 25Hz GPS module and a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit. This built-in hardware provides highly accurate lap-timing, track mapping and chassis dynamics (3D acceleration, pitch, roll and yaw) right out of the box, without needing any external accessories. It also includes integrated Wi-Fi for fast, cable-free downloads. Above: Aim X Log (Photo: Aim) The Aim X Log is best for: Driver Coaches and Setup Engineers: Thore who require chassis and driver performance data combined with engine metrics for a holistic view. Complex Race Vehicles: Applications where a complete data set - GPS, IUM and ECU - is a necessary from Day One, offering the capability of a full-scale data logger like the Solo 2 DL but in a compact, dash-free format. To summarise, the Aim ECU Log is for the user who values compactness and is primarily focused on engine health and tuning. The Aim X Log is the choice for the team that demands comprehensive driver and chassis dynamics alongside engine data, offering powerful analytical tools in the smallest package. JB Data Engineering can supply and install both the Aim ECU Log and Aim X Log and can train you, your drivers and your engineers to get the most from your investment. Contact us now on +44 (0) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to discuss how we can help you prepare for the 2026 season. Well, that’s about it for the November newsletter. If you’ve finished racing for 2025, we hope you enjoy your down-time and the start of the planning process for 2026. if, however, you’re racing in Asia, we hope your preparations go well and we wish you the best of luck for a successful campaign. As we mentioned earlier, if you’re planning to shakedown your car in readiness for 2026, test a new driver or if you’re looking for support in the workshop testing, installing, servicing or calibrating your data and video equipment, JB Data Engineering would be delighted to help. - Is Rain On The Way? Preparing for Variable Weather Conditions.- June 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to the June 2025 JB Data Engineering Newsletter. We can’t believe we’re almost half way through the year! The 24 Hours of Le Mans gets underway in two weeks and the Monaco Grand Prix has been and gone so….wow, this year is flying past quickly! JB Data Engineering has been flat-out in May, with commitments across the length and breadth of the UK and enquiries are still coming in. If you are currently planning for the second half of the 2025 season and would like to discuss equipment purchases, trackside support or training, please contact us as although the diary is full, we would like to help as much as we can. In this newsletter, as we’ve been working alongside Racelogic on some exciting developments for their Scenes for the VBOX HD2,we’ll be looking at how video with data overlays can be a valuable tool, even for the club racer. We can’t say too much about the VBOX work as it’s still in development but watch this space! We’ve also put together some tips for race planning and preparation when the track conditions are changeable. Do we stay on slicks? Should we switch to wet tyres? How do we prepare the car? Read our thoughts on how to plan for variable conditions. For expert data, engineering or video support, please email us at www.jbdataengineering.co.uk or call (44) 7717 562169 . We’d love to hear from you! Development Work for the VBOX HD2! (Photo: Racelogic) JB Data Engineering was recently invited by Racelogic to support the development of new manufacturer-specific graphic overlay files (Scenes) for use with the VBOX HD2. We were delighted to help as the VBOX HD2 is a tool that we regularly use when working with teams and drivers at all levels. We can’t give too much away as the products are still under development but look out for some exciting developments for entry-level GT racing! Over 10% of VBOX staff hold race licenses so they not only design and sell equipment, they’re actually using it in competition and, in our opinion, the VBOX HD2 with Scenes, or its equivalent from other manufacturers, is a must-buy for club racers chasing quicker lap times. By merging 1080p video with custom data overlays, sensor inputs and circuit layouts, the HD2 delivers pro-level insights - perfect for club racing events across the UK. Here’s why we think every racer needs the VBOX HD2. Custom Overlays for Speed: The VBOX setup software allows you to use Scenes to build dashboards; syncing speed, RPM or brake pressure with video. Less experienced drivers will be able to spot performamce opportunities which will compliment additional professional driver coaching. Data can be exported to laptops for post-race analysis. You can also add sponsor logos to your video outputs which makes it a fantastc marketing tool. ((Photo: Racelogic) Sensor Precision: With 25Hz GPS and a CAN bus interface, Scenes can pull steering, tyre temps, G-forces and a huge amount of CAN bus data into your feed. This information can be paired with tyre data to pinpoint opportunities to improve grip and reduce tyre wear; an essential tool for budget-conscious club racing competitors. (For support in importing CAN bus data, talk to JB Data Engineering. We have years of experience in supplying, installing and using the VBOX HD2.) Circuit Maps for Strategy: GPS-driven track layouts show ideal lines and the vast map database means you should never be racing at a circuit that the VBOX HD2 isn’t familier with. Fast Workflow: VBOX HD2 with Scenes’ intuitive interface and dual cameras can sync data and footage in minutes, ready for uploading to phones or sending via HDMI for instant review. This makes the HD2 perfect for sharing data with engineers and pit crews. (VBOX technician Evan with Jordan from JB Data Engineering (Photo: Racelogic) Cost Effective: AT £2,595 + VAT, the VBOX HD2 HDMI - Track Package with Scenes offers professional-grade video analysis for club-level motorsport. It’s the perfect tool to support you in achieving your racing goals. Contact JB Data Engineering to discuss how the VBOX HD2 HDMI can work for you. We supply, install and train on the VBOX HD2 as well as provide expert trackside support. Is It Going To Rain? Race Planning For Mixed Conditionsget Have you ever been in the situation where weather conditions for your race are forecast to be changeable? For example, it’s dry for the start but the weather maps show rain is possible. How do you plan for that situation? What should your thought processes be as race time approaches? JB Data Engineering offers five pointers to guide your preparations: Assess Conditions with Data, Not Guesswork: Start 60 minutes out by checking recent lap times from TSL or whoever is providing the timing solution. Compare times set on slicks in dry vs. wet conditions (i.e. the offset) and then compare times set on wet tyres. If slicks in light rain are still quicker than wets, propose to start on dry tyres. Talk to drivers from recent races to gauge their opinion on track feel. Real feedback trumps forecasts every time! Stick to the facts and set the car up for the current conditions, not forecasts. Don’t try and second-guess the elements. Monitor Weather Closely at 30 minutes: Use multiple weather apps to track the rain’s arrival time. Check air and track temps along with pressure changes and wind shifts. If there is a 50/50 chance of rain at the race start, bring both slicks and wets to the grid or assembly area and adjust your tyre pressures to current conditions. Use your RaceSense tyre pressure gauge to log pressures and weather data for future use. Prepare Car for Rain-Readiness: If heavy rain starts, make the obvious switch to wet tyres, adjust dampers and roll-bars and ensure rain lights are switched on. For applicable GT cars, make sure ‘wet tyre’ mode is selected and that anti-fog is applied to the screen. (As part of your race preparations, you should have also checked that the heated screen or AC is working as these are vital for the driver’s visibility. Plan Pit Stop Strategy: For races with pit stops or driver changes, plan and prepare for any adjustments you might want to make. Check that the pit crew are fully briefed. Record Your Adjustments: Whatever the outcome of the race, any data collected will prove invaluable for the next time you’re faced with the same conditions. JB Data Engineering has been advising teams on race preparation and strategy for over ten years. If you’d like us in your pit box for your next race, call us now to check availability. That about wraps about the June newsletter. We hope, wherever you’re racing, that you have a safe and successful June and we look forward to meeting you in a garage or paddock soon. Although our diary is very full, we do have availability between 12 - 15.06.25, 20 - 22.06.25, 27 - 29.06.25 and 25 - 29.07.25. Please do call us if we can support you over any of these dates.
