In our June newsletter, we outlined some work we’d carried out in conjunction with Racelogic, focused on the development of new graphic overlay files. We were recently speaking with our friends at the company after they had returned from Spa, supporting teams in the British GT Championship. Racelogic mentioned that some teams are still struggling to optimise the position of their GPS antenna - a critical factor in ensuring accurate, efficient data.
As a result, we thought we’d include some hints and tips on VBOX HD2 installation that we hope you might find helpful. We have also included links to two excellent Racelogic videos, presented by Customer Support Manager Mark Winwood, which provide expert guidance on the important areas of cable routing, camera placement and antenna installation.
For expert data, engineering or video support, whether it’s for equipment supply, installation, training or support at the track, please email us at www.jbdataengineering.co.uk or call (44) 7717 562169 . We’d love to hear from you!
VBOX HD2 Installation: Precision for Drivers at all levels

For drivers seeking faster laps, Racelogic’s VBOX HD2 delivers pro-level data, but making sure the unit is installed correctly is crucial for optimum performance. JB Data Engineering, trusted by teams ranging from club-level competitors through to FIA WEC champions, shares expert tips to ensure your HD2’s 1080p video and 25Hz GPS delivers the data you need. Avoid common pitfalls and boost performance – here’s how:
Plug-and-Play Simplicity: The VBOX HD2 is a breeze to install – just watch the video below featuring DTO Motorsport’s Jack Goldie for an expert view on installation into the team’s new Ginetta GTP8. Connect power, CAN, cameras and GPS via pre-pinned connectors – no soldering needed. The CAN system integrates with your car’s dash (e.g., MoTeC), piggy-backing brake, throttle and engine data in minutes. Installation is quick and efficient –perfect for club racers short on time.

Protect Cables, Preserve Data:Avoid crimping or bending cables. Tight bends near seats or dashboards (common in MX5s, for example) disrupt signals, skewing brake trails or gear selections – vital for spotting those 0.2s gains. Use loose cable ties and allow for slack, especially at the back of the camera. Route cables without kinks to avoid interference. The excellent video below from Racelogic explains in more detail the best way to cable your VBOX HD2.
Smart GPS Mounting: Mount the GPS antenna externally on a flat, metallic surface (roof or bonnet) and avoid dashboards (non-metallic) or roll cages (blocked sky view). British GT teams at Spa learned this the hard way, with many teams struggling with poor antenna placement. Locate the antenna at least 10cms away from other similar devices and, for cars with carbon fibre and composite roofs, add metal tape as a mounting point. This ensures pinpoint track map accuracy. The video below shows precisely how to locate your antenna.
Why It Works: Proper setup delivers reliable data and video for drivers, teams and race engineers with poor installs potentially wasting time and money. JB Data Engineering has been installing and working with VBOX HD2 installations for many years and we can ensure that you are able extract maximum value from your VBOX investment.

Why The Ecumaster ADU is a Must for Club Racers
As the UK racing season moves towards its second half, the Ecumaster Advanced Display Unit (ADU) is the dash display you need to stay ahead. Trusted by teams across multiple series and championships, this compact powerhouse delivers critical data with a finesse that elevates every lap. JB Data Engineering has installed and worked with many Ecumaster ADUs so here’s why we think it’s a game-changer for drivers chasing podiums.

Picture this: you’re powering through the Bomb Hole at Snetterton in the blazing sunshine and the Ecumaster ADU’s high-resolution screen lights up with speed, RPM and tyre temps in crisp clarity. Its alarm system flashes warnings to help you avoid DNFs and, with its high-visibility, anti-glare screen, you won’t be squinting, even in summer glare. The data will be right there, keeping you focused.
The Ecumaster Advanced Display Unit’s effectiveness lies in its flexibility. With CAN bus integration, it can sync seamlessly with your car’s systems like MoTeC, letting you tailor its display. It’s like having a pit crew on your dash, providing expert input for every lap.
Built tough for today’s demanding race environments, the ADU withstands heat and vibration, all from a starting price of £889 + VAT. That’s professional-grade insight at a club racer’s price.
JB Data Engineering can supply, install and train you to operate the Ecumaster ADU, ensuring a flawless setup and efficient operation. Call us today on 00(44) 7717 562169 to discuss how we can help you benefit from the Ecumaster Advanced Display Unit.
Wherever you’re competing in July, we hope you have a safe and successful outing and we look forward to our paths crossing in a paddock very soon.
