Make Video Work Harder For You!

Hello and welcome to the March edition of the JB Data Engineering newsletter. We hope your preparations have gone well and that you’re excited about getting out on track for the 2026 season. JB Data Engineering is currently in Europe as part of the test team for an exciting historic GT3 project - more on that as the weeks progress!

In this newsletter we suggest how club racers can make better use of video…..and it’s not necessarily all about watching complete laps. We also present the Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel (supplied by JB Data Engineering) and show how the unit can tidy up cockpit wiring and improve ergonomics for racers. Finally, we introduce a new associate for JB Data Engineering; P1 Productions and its new Prebuilt Website service - an essential marketing tool for those starting out on the motorsport ladder.

We’re pretty much working at capacity now for the upcoming season (thank you to all existing clients who booked JB Data Engineering for this year) but we may have a few dates available if you’re looking for data and video support. Please call us on 00(44) 7717 562169 to see if we can help.

Make Video Work Harder For You!

JB Data

If you’ve invested in video equipment for 2026, you may be tempted to just review complete laps and see where you can save time. But….video can do so much more! Video review is a powerful tool so here are FIVE engineering -focused tips for club racers looking to move beyond basic review sessions.

1) Sync Video with Predictive Delta Timing

The most powerful use of video can be found in identifying the exact moment when your Delta-T (time difference) begins to deteriorate. Use analysis software like VBOX Circuit Tools or Aim RaceStudio to sync your video with a GPS-Based Delta graph.

Objective: Don’t just look for where you are slow - look at the video the moment the delta line ticks upward. Was it a difference in corner entry, getting on the throttle later or downshifting too early? Seeing the error on video makes the lesson easier to remember than just looking at data traces.

2) Perform “Reference Points Audits”

Use your video to build a library of visual reference points for every corner by freeze-framing your video at three crucial points: Braking, Turn-In and Apex.

Objective: Identify a permanent track feature (marshal post, curb end) for each point. This avoids ‘feel’ which can be inconsistent. If your video shows you braking at one point on your quickest lap but a different point on your slowest, you’ve uncovered an inconsistency that you can correct

 3) Listen To Your Tyres

Listen to, as much as watch, your videos, especially at the mid-corner phase.

Objective: A constant, scrubbing sound indicates you’re at the limit of your grip. No sound and you have untapped grip. If you hear the engine stutter or dip mid-corner, you are likely inducing understeer. Use audio to judge if you are truly maximising your car’s lateral potential.

4) Use ‘Ghost’ Overlays

If you have a teammate or faster friend, use ‘side-by-side’ or ‘transparency’ overlays. Many software packages allow you to put two videos in one frame, synced by the same GPS coordinates.

Objective: Look at the ‘ghost’ car. If they pull away at the exit of a corner, it’s likely to indicate you’re either late on the throttle or using a compromised line. A ‘Lead-Follow’ video comparison is often more intuitive for a club racer to grasp than a speed trace.

5) Monitor Inputs vs Reactions

Mount a second, driver-facing camera or wide-angle POV that includes your hands and feet.

Objective: Look for corrective inputs. If your hands are constantly ‘sawing’ at the wheel mid-corner, you are reacting to a car imbalance rather than driving it. Video allows you to see if you are initiating the slide or just reacting.

De-Clutter Your Cockpit with Ecumaster

Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel - Wireless

If you’re looking to clean up your cockpit, remove unnecessary cabling and improve ergonomic efficiency while racing, the Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel is a must-have. Using an encrypted radio frequency (RF) to talk to your car’s PMU or ECU, the Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel eliminates the need for the dreaded ‘“Curly Cable” connecting your steering wheel to the dashboard.

Why switch to the Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel?

Weight and Complexity Reduction: For a clean cockpit build, the RF Panel is unbeatable, removing the need to run wiring through a hollow steering column or use expensive military-spec slip rings. The panel is powered by a small, internal battery designed to last for over 1.5m button presses, meaning that the wheel remains completely autonomous from the car’s electrical system.

Integration with CAN Bus Systems: The Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel communicates directly with its receiver which is plugged directly into your car’s CAN Bus network. Each of the panel’s eight buttons and two rotary encoders can be mapped to any function with your Ecumaster EMU or PMU.

Elimination of the Dreaded “Curly Cable”!: Traditional racing steering wheels with buttons require a coiled cable that stretches and twists as you steer. These cables are a common failure point; they can snag on gear levers, wrap around the steering column and eventually fray due to constant fatigue. Removing the cable deletes a failure point and improves safety as there is no physical tether that can can interfere with either rapid steering inputs or the driver’s ability to exit the vehicle in an emergency.

Universal Fitment: The Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel is designed to fit standard 6-bolt steering wheels like MOMO, Sparco or OMP that have a 70mm bolt pattern. You can swap the steering wheel between different cars (if they have the RF receiver installed) without re-wiring the entire setup.

The Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel Panel is perfect for lap timers, radio, wipers and traction control maps. (For safety, critical “kill” switches should remain hard-wired). JB Data Engineering can supply, install and provide expert advice on how to optimise your investment in the Ecumaster RF Steering Wheel.

A Professional Web Presence for the JB Data Engineering Community

Teams and drivers at all levels invest hours in analysing data and perfecting car setups to find tenths of a second. However, are they as focused on ensuring that their brand, and those of their partners, receive the same amount of attention?

Social media is a great tool for instant engagement but it’s a volatile place to guarantee that your message is getting across. Changes in algorithms and the risk of hacks mean posts can get buried. For a serious team or driver seeking new sponsors and looking to provide their existlng partners with meaningful exposure, owning your personal on-line space is non-negotiable.

P1

hat’s why we’re delighted to announce our collaboration with P1 Productions.

P1 Productions has launched a new, motorsport-specific, prebuilt website service, focused on drivers and teams. This is not a static “on-line advert”: this is a high-performance marketing tool. For an accessible initial fee and a modest monthly subscription of less than £100, you get a professional website that tells the world you mean business.

Why a P1 Productions Website?

Monthly Content Updates: Your site remains fresh and sharp with monthly news updates provided by EnduranceandGT, ensuring your latest results and messages are always current and available.

Partner Credibility: Give your sponsors a dedicated space with high-res graphics, permanent logo placement and links to their websites, marketing material and contact details. (P1 Productions maintains direct contact with your partners, if requested, to ensure that your messages are aligned.)

Clear, Well-Designed and Easy to Navigate: P1 Productions is expert in providing legible websites that are easy to navigate and have a strong, visual appeal, ensuring your messages always get across.

To view it from a racing perspective, a professional website is the “chassis” of your on-line marketing and supports everything else you do - from social media to email newsletters and merchandise. If you’re ready to get on the grid with a site that works as hard as you do, and at a price that fits your budget, email tom@P1graphics.co.uk, call 00(44) 7555 684473 or click here.

The Best of Luck for 2026!

Don’t forget that JB Data Engineering is always at the end of the phone if you need advice or guidance, and, subject to availability, we can be wherever you need us to resolve your data and video issues before the new season’s track action starts earnestly.

We hope to see you in a paddock or workshop soon.
