JB Data Engineering logo

Welcome to the March 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter.

Hello and welcome to the March edition of the JB Data Engineering. We’ve had a busy start to the year and, with many international championships having completed their opening rounds and the start of the domestic season just around the around the corner, 2024 is well underway.

The British GT Championship held its Media Day three weeks ago and JB Data Engineering was there providing support to teams up and down the paddock, more of which later.

Our partners VBOX have some exciting developments for 2024 and we’re looking at their latest, the new Pit Lane Timer, in this news letter. With pit stop timing becoming ever more crucial to being competitive across a number of championships, VBOX’s latest evolution couldn’t have come at a better time.

As ever, if you need data engineering support for pre-season testing, please contact us on +44 7717 562160 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk. The diary is filling up fast but we will do our best to make time to help where we can.to make time to help where we can.

British GT Media Day

The traditional opening to the British GT Championship season is its Media Day, this year held at Donington. The weather unfortunately wasn’t kind and heavy rain blighted the opening track sessions but the depth of the grid more than made up for a ‘little’ rain(!).

SRO Motorsports Group, the series organiser, was very pleased to announce that, despite the economic challenges we’re all facing, the grid for the 2024 British Championship will be at capacity with 36 cars contesting the nine-round series. With visits to iconic circuits such as Oulton Park, the Silverstone 500 circuit and Donington and with the return of Spa-Francorchamps as the overseas round, the British GT Championship will offer some spectacular racing.

The GT3 grid will see 19 entries, the most since 2014, with ten manufacturers and five former champions competing for the overall title. GT4 entries are also very healthy with nine manufacturers, 10 Pro-Am pairings and seven Silver line-ups.

JB Data Engineering was at Donington for Media Day providing support to teams throughout the grid and we very much forward to returning when the racing action starts.

With extensive experience in providing data and video support services to teams competing in the British GT Championship, JB Data Engineering is your perfect data partner for the 2024 season. Call us now on 07717 562160  or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk to discuss how we can help you.

British Endurance Championship / ROWE Britcar Trophy

The British Endurance Championship and ROWE Britcar Trophy get underway at Donington over the Easter weekend and JB Data Engineering is delighted to have been invited back to join the Data Scrutineering team. The grids at British Endurance Championship and Britcar Trophy meetings are full of some great machinery and we can’t wait to be in the middle of the action when the racing starts on Friday March 29th.

For 2024, the series has introduced some major changes. Class E has now been re-configured for 2.0-litre touring cars and Class H has been launched for hybrid, BEV and hydrogen-powered cars.

Britcar’s use of Balance of Performance and unique Britcar Endurance Performance Indicator (BEPI) ensures that the racing is always highly competitive. With the series visiting Donington, Snetterton, Silverstone and Oulton Park, a weekend at a British Endurance Championship meeting is one not to be missed.

Our role as part of the Data Scrutineering team ensures that all competitors can be assured that the technical regulations are being followed.

If you see us in the paddock over the course of the season, please do come and say hello. We’re very much looking forward to meeting up with friends old and new!

New VBOX Pit Lane Timer

As a proud supplier of VBOX Motorsport equipment, JB Data Engineering is delighted to announce the company’s launch of the new VBOX Lap Timer. With mandated pit stop lengths being an important part of many series, optimising your time in the pit lane is now crucial to ensuring your competitiveness.

The new VBOX Pit Lane Timer provides instant feedback to help optimise the time spent in the pit lane and avoid unnecessary penalties.Once the pit lane entry point is crossed, the VBOX Pit Lane Timer will display the velocity until the car comes to a stop and then counts down to zero to indicate when it is time to leave the pit box.

The VBOX Pit Lane Timer uses an array of six LEDS to prompt you when to speed up, slow down and leave the pit box. With VBOX moving to a 25Hz GNSS receiver, information such as speed, time and position is logged at 25 times per second and is stored on an SD card to examine post-race using the free Circuit Tools Software.

If you would like to discuss how the new VBOX Pit Lane Timer can  help you achieve your racing goals, contact JB Data Engineering on +44 (0) 7717 562169 or email jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk.

Well, that about wraps it up for this newsletter. Although the diary is filling up fast, we do still a few spaces left for test sessions and race weekends throughout the year so please contact JB Data Engineering to see if we can help in any way with your racing plans for 2024.

Wherever and whenever you’re racing, we hope you have a fantastic season! All the best, JB Data Engineering
