Welcome to the June 2024 JB Data Engineering Newsletter.

Hello and welcome to the June edition of the JB Data Engineering Newsletter! With the UK season now well and truly underway, JB Data Engineering has been providing data and video analysis support to teams competing in the Fun Cup Endurance Championship, the GT Cup Championship and the British GT Championship as well as working on test days and media days. It’s been a busy month!

In this newsletter, we’ll be throwing the spotlight on the AiM MyChron5 S 2T, a great piece of kit for karters looking to improve their competitiveness through data and video analysis. Due to a change of plans by one of our clients, a (very) few weekends have opened up. As a result, if we can help with your data engineering requirements at short notice, please call on (44) 7717 562169 or email on jordan@jbdataengineering.co.uk. We’d love to work with you!

Fun Cup Endurance Championship

The month got off to a busy start with Rounds Two and Three of the Fun Cup Endurance Championship at Croft. JB Data Engineering was working with Morpheus Motorsports and its three-car entry of the #157 GMR/Eco Fun Cup driven by Gracie Mitchell and Rob Croydon, the #103 AxiaMetrics entry piloted by Christopher Weatherall, Jonathan Railton and Greg Evans and the #195 car driven by Neil Burroughs and Ted Bradbury. Across the team we had a nice balance of drivers, some still developing their race craft

Fun Cup Endurance Championship weekends can be full-on and Croft was no exception with its two races, the first being for one hour followed by a two-hour contest. Everybody in the team worked extremely hard with the result that Gracie and Rob finished in 10th and 13th places overall and the #103 crew took 19th and 8th-place overall finishes. The #195 crew had a very successful weekend with a 2nd in the first race followed by overall victory in the two-hour enduro.

Gracie Mitchell is clearly an up-and-coming driving talent with a bright future and with whom we’ve had the pleasure of working with before. After Croft the #157 car lies 8th in the Masters standings and the #103 car 10th in class. Burroughs and Bradbury are second in the overall standings

We look forward to hopefully being invited to join Morpheus Motorsports for future rounds of the Fun Cup Endurance Championship.

GT Cup Championship

It was another busy weekend for the GT Cup Championship on the Brands Hatch GP circuit. Morpheus Racing returned with its two-car line-up of the #69 Mercedes AMG GT4 (GTH class) driven by Stephen Walton and Chris Hart and the sister #96 entry piloted by Jon Currie and Marcus Clutton, the latter stepping in for Phil Keen who had commitments elsewhere.

With four races over the two days, the action never stopped and Morpheus Racing left Kent with two 4ths, a 5th and an 8th-place finish in class for Stephen and Chris in the #69 Mercedes and a podium, two 4ths and a 7th-place finish for the #96 car.

Balance of Performance was not in our favour for Brands Hatch and racing an older generation GT4 car against the latest Aston Martin Vantage GT4 meant it was always going to be a bit of an uphill struggle but we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and the racing was excellent as always. JB Data Engineering was delighted to provide data support to Morpheus Racing and after two great opening weekends of GT Cup action, we hope to return for more GT Cup competition later in the year.

Testing and Media Day

JB Data Engineering was asked to support Pyro Motorsport when Jo Polley and ex-BTCC racer Jeff Smith tested their Mini Miglias in May. Although more of a classic formula, the cars were both equipped with sensors, digital dashes and VBox equipment for video analysis so in many ways it was no different to working on a contemporary GT car.

It was a very productive day and everybody left having made improvements and gaining a better understanding of the two cars.

We were also invited to support the Porsche Sprint Challenge Media Day where we offered technical support. We managed to fix some issues while we were there so it was time well spen and we hope to return to the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB as the season progresses.

British GT Championship

JB Data Engineering concluded the month of May with a return to Donington Park and a weekend of British GT Championship action working with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK run by Speedworks Motorsport and its #44 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo piloted by Kavi Jundu and Dan Vaughan.

Testing went very well and Jundu and Vaughan qualified the #44 Toyota 10th overall in the GT4 class and 3rd in the GT4PA category. The race was demanding due to the variable weather conditions and a downpour close to the race start meant that on-track action was red-flagged to allow water to drain from the track.

Due to the Championship's sporting regulations regarding Full Course Yellows, we had to be careful with pitstop strategies to avoid losing a lap. Our strategy worked well and Javi and Dan brought the #44 car home in 3rd place overall in the GT4 class and 2nd in the  GT4PA category.

We were delighted with the weekend's results and it goes to show that sensible application of the BoP regulations and a good set of rules make for great racing.
