2019 so far
It only seems like yesterday that we were at Autosport 2019, talking to prospective clients, with a whole season stretching ahead of us and yet here we are with almost half the season gone, the 24 Hours of Le Mans within days and planning for the 2020 season already in progress.
So….what has happened in the world of JB Data Engineering since the start of the year?
Following Autosport, the phone started ringing and the first client to sign up JB Data Engineering for the new season was TF Sport, the Redhill-based Aston Martin customer racing team with entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the British GT Championship. We were recruited to fulfill the data engineering requirements for the team’s British GT Championship campaign where it is fielding four entries – two each in the GT3 and GT4 categories. It was a huge honour to be asked to work for the global leader in Aston Martin customer racing and with two of the world’s greatest GT drivers in Jonny Adam and Nicki Thiim and leading Amateur pilots Graham Davidson and Mark Farmer. The team is also fielding an exciting line-up of young driving talent in the GT4 category with Patrick Kibble, Josh Price, Ash Hand and Tom Canning and it has been very satisfying to watch them gain in confidence in the Aston Martin Vantage GT4.
The opening weekend frustrations at Oulton Park have been well documented but things really started to come together at Rounds Three and Four at Snetterton where the #47 car, driven by Graham and Nicki, scored second and fifth-place finishes in class and the #2 car, piloted by Mark and Nicki, drive to sixth and fourth-place finishes in the Pro-Am category.
The GT4 crews also enjoyed a positive weekend with Josh and Patrick driving to sixth and seventh place finishes in the Silver category and Ash and Tom finishing second and sixth in their Aston Martin Vantage GT4.
After Snetterton the team is really positive as it looks forward to the rest of the season and we’re excited about our prospects at the blue-riband Silverstone 500 on Sunday June 9.
A new client for JB Data Engineering this season has been Woodward racing where we have been supporting the Hereford-based team with its entry into the CCSC Turbo Tin Tops series. Working with brothers Daniel and Sean Woodard, we have provided data engineering support, utilising the Racelogic VBOX Lite and OLED Predictive Lap Timing Data Display systems to help them get up to speed. The brothers were rewarded for their hard work in the opening round at Snetterton by finishing third in class and ninth overall.
We were back for the Round two at Silverstone where Daniel and Sean qualified third in class. Sean got off to a good start but atrocious weather after the driver change meant that Daniel brought the car home fourth in class.
The experience that Daniel and Sean were gaining certainly paid off in Round Three where, after wet qualifying and a P10 start, they won their class and finished P2 overall. A fantastic weekend!
Early in the season, we supported In2Racing for a test session with Roman Bilinski in his Ginetta Junior at Blyton Park. During the session Roman found 10 seconds in his lap time. It was very satisfying to work with a young driver at the start of his career and we have been following Roman’s progress in the 2019 Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship with interest.
We were delighted to work with Valour Racing in GT Cup where the Peterborough-based team was campaigning a Porsche 911 GT3 run by 24-7 Motorsport. The systems used on the Porsche included the VBOX HD2 system with OLED.
With just over five months of the year completed, JB Data Engineering has been extremely busy, supporting clients both track-side and off-track. If we can help you purchase your new data logging set-up or improve your lap-times, either at the circuit or in the simulator, please contact us at Jordanjbdataengineering.co.uk or on +44 7717 562169.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the 2019 European season, we are particularly interested in working with clients in the Dunlop Endurance Championship Run By Britcar. Our experience working with GT3-spec entries means that we can provide immediate support, both track-side and remotely, if you or your team requires data engineering services for the remaining four race weekends of the championship.
PS: We are particularly interested in working with teams at the Gulf 12 Hours and the 24H SERIES 24H DUBAI 2020. If we can help, please get in touch.
